Michelle Livingston
Painting
Michelle Livingston (b. 1987) begins a painting with a finished piece in mind. Her works are recognizable by their immersive textures and vibrant color palettes that solidify the universe her forms reside in. What develops is from dialogues the figures have amongst themselves, with their environment, and the inner dialogue of the artist herself. The interactions can be seen as a mirror to Livingston’s own life or what she wishes to have happened. A sort of reconciliation of the two, the results are conversations exhibited in their entirety.
While she constantly challenges herself to accurately represent a situation or feeling, much of the process is spontaneous as well. Though wrestling with the constraints of being overaware and having to compartmentalize, Livingston finds self acceptance and calm working late into the night. It is often when she feels the energy of this world finally quiets and clears, allowing her to return to the universe she’s built asking to come forward.
Livingston grew up in Connecticut and went on to study at Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston. Originally joining Project Onward in 2023, following a hiatus, she rejoined the studio in 2025 as a remote artist. She currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
